The LALC provides education and career services.
|
The Littleton Area Learning Center (LALC) is a 30,000 square foot facility that is a one stop shop for career and educational services. It currently houses a variety of organizations and services including: Granite State College (formerly named College for Lifelong Learning); NH Community Technical College; NH Department of Employment Security; North Country Health Consortium, SAU 35s Teacher Resource Center; and the Gregg Public Safety Academy. It was developed by Littleton Industrial Development Corporation (LIDC) and Northern Community Investment Corporation (NCIC), two not-for-profit organizations who own the LALC.
The goal of the LALC was to address the need to expand education opportunities and upgrade the skills of area residents in the North Country of New Hampshire to help develop a skilled workforce for area employers.

The Littleton Area Learning Center provides an environment and a curriculum intended to train employees for work in higher tech work environments. The curriculum offered by both Granite State College and the NH Technical College meets the needs of area employers including the Littleton Coin Company, Hitchiner Manufacturing, and many other area employers. Training at the LALC was a major factor in retaining the Hitchiner Manufacturing operation in Littleton, for which closing had been previously announced. Helping Hitchiner to find ways to maintain its Littleton operation retained more than three hundred of Littletons best manufacturing jobs.
|A total of $868,750 in CDIP funds and $1 million in CDBG Economic Development funds were used towards acquiring and upgrading the building. The CDBG Economic Development funds were awarded to Grafton County and subgranted to NCIC and LIDC. Other funds were used to finance the nearly $3 million project, including investments of $350,000 each by the two development partners and part of a federal grant of $1.5 million arranged by US Senator Judd Gregg to establish an interactive distance learning classroom and onsite training facility tied directly to the NH Police Academy, the NH Fire Academy and the Department of Transportation in Concord. This has since resulted in a considerable cost savings to local government, a reduction in travel time for similar training in Concord, and provides a greater variety of training opportunities for police, fire, emergency medical services and state, county and local employees of every service provided to our citizens.
