$8.0 Million in Grant Funds Available / New Way to Apply for Funds
CONCORD, NH - The Community Development Finance Authority (CDFA), located in Concord, NH, will be conducting an Application Writing Workshop for the statewide Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Affordable Housing and Public Facilities (HS/PF) and Economic Development Programs, on Thursday, December 3, 2009. In 2010, approximately $8.0 million in CDBG funds will be available to municipalities, nonprofits, and businesses to conduct affordable housing and public facilities improvements and business expansion to create jobs that benefit low- and moderate-income New Hampshire citizens.
In 2010, all CDBG Housing and Public Facility Applications will be required to be submitted through CDFA's online Grants Management System (GMS). Later in 2010, CDBG Economic Development applications will be accepted through GMS. A portion of the workshop will focus on how to use the system and how to fill out the application online. Other topics of the workshop will include an introduction of CDFA and its financing programs, CDBG national objective compliance, CDBG eligible activities and federal requirements, deadlines, and evaluation criteria.
The Workshop will be held at the Local Government Center in Concord, NH from 9:30 AM - 2:30 PM. Participants must register online at www.nhcdfa.org by Monday, November 30. Municipalities, nonprofit community development organizations, Regional Development Corporations, Regional Planning Commissions, and grant administrators are encouraged to attend.
The CDBG Housing and Public Facilities program provides competitive grants to municipalities, who in turn typically sub-grant to nonprofit affordable housing developers for projects that benefit low- and moderate-income people or households. Previously funded projects include: housing rehabilitation and affordable housing; construction or rehabilitation of transitional housing units and homeless shelters; remediation of code violations for municipal water and sewer systems; and renovation of child care and adult day care facilities. Applications for the CDBG Housing and Public Facilities funds must be received through CDFA's Grant's Management System no later than Midnight on Monday, January 25, 2010. Approximately $2.0 Million will be accepted in each of the two 2010 application funding rounds.
The CDBG Economic Development program provides funds for activities which create and retain employment, primarily for low- and moderate-income people, by providing business financing through municipalities who typically sub-grant to Regional Development Corporations and other nonprofit Economic Development Entities, or through public infrastructure improvements to support economic development efforts. The main goal for economic development projects is to create jobs that provide good wages, benefits, and training. Funds can be used for acquisition of land and buildings, construction of commercial buildings, purchase of machinery and equipment, employee training, and public facilities improvements. Applications are accepted year round until all funds are expended. Approximately $4.0 Million will be available in 2010.
CDFA, created by legislation in 1983, is a nonprofit public instrumentality of the State of New Hampshire. CDFA administers over $30 million in funding resources, which includes a combination of state tax credits, CDBG, and Neighborhood Stabilization funding. CDFA supports affordable housing and economic development activities that benefit low- and moderate-income citizens.
